Requirements and Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in litigation, public interest law, or legal services.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Experience developing workflows, processes, and legal support systems.
- Proficiency in case management and legal research tools (LexisNexis, etc.).
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to liaise between departments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), Adobe, and Zoom applications
Job Related Expectations:
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to the DDL.
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda as directed by the DDL.
- Assist in the development and implementation of workflows and systems for the DDL.
- Coordinate communication between practice groups and the DDL.
- Assist in the development and implementation of trainings and onboarding programs for new staff.
- Assist with organizing internal workshops and professional development trainings for staff.
- Oversee the All-Staff calendar, assist with coordinating various events and internal programming across the organization.
- Comply with all program regulations and funder requirements
- Assist with special projects, legal research, and additional tasks as directed.
- Access to reliable transportation
Qualifications:
- A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association; or
- A certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a degree from, a postsecondary institution that requires the successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester, or equivalent, units in law-related courses and that has been accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education: or
- A baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in any subject, a minimum of one year of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three years, and a written declaration from this paralegal stating that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks.
- A high school diploma or general equivalency diploma, a minimum of three years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three years, and a written declaration from this attorney stating that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks. This experience and training shall be completed no later than December 31, 2003.
